Earthly Sanctuary a copy of the Heavenly Sanctuary

  <<back to Jesus' Death

That the pattern for the Old Testament sanctuary, given to the Hebrew nation by God on Mount Sinai, was a copy of the heavenly temple. And in the Old Testament sanctuary on earth, human priests ministered before the people as Jesus’ representatives. Animals for sacrifice were without fault or blemish, to represent Jesus' perfect sinless life as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

"Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever." Hebrews 7:23-28

" Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, ‘See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.’" Hebrews 8:1-6

Exodus: chapters 25-33, Hebrews chapter 9.

That once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the Old Testament sanctuary was cleansed from the people's sins. This ceremony represented Jesus' future cleansing of the heavenly temple from 1844 forward until He has judged the last person recorded in the Book of Life.

"'For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever. And the pirest, who is anointed and consecreated to minister as pirest in his father's place, shall make atonement, and put on the linen clothes, the holy garments; then he shall make atonement for the Holy Sanctruary, and he shall make atonement for the tabernackle of meeting and for the altar, and he shall make atonement for the pirests and for all the people of the assembly. This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel, for all their sins, once a year.' And he did as the Lord commanded Moses." Leviticus 16:30-34

That the prophecy recorded in Daniel chapter 8 "And he said to me, ‘For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.’" Daniel 8:14 NKJV refers to the Son of God entering into the Most Holy Place of the heavenly temple to cleanse the temple from sin. Thus entering the Most Holy place in the year 1844 Jesus commenced His investigative judgement of every person who has believed in His saving name, to see if they are still worthy to have their names retained in God’s Book of Life. Those who have wilfully returned to sin again shall have their names blotted from the book of life. In this way the temple is cleansed from the pollution of sin.

In Bible prophecy one day represents one literal year 2300 days = 2300 years. Daniel’s prophecy begins in the autumn of 457BC when Artaxerxes issued the third and final decree, “to restore and build Jerusalem.” Daniel 9: 25. Hence counting down from the year 457BC, the 2300 years end in the year 1844.

“And he said to me, ‘For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.’

“Then it happened, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision and was seeking the meaning, that suddenly there stood before me one having the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, who called, and said, ‘Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.’ So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and fell on my face; but he said to me, ‘Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.’ Daniel 8:14-17

" I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened." Daniel 7:9-10

“I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him. Daniel 7:13

‘“For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father...’” John 5:22-23

“... And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.” Revelation 20:12

Whether good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:14
