 God's Pursuing Love

 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 5:5-8

What a wonder, Father in heaven, that you loved us, sought us, pursued us when we were unloving and unlovable. What a wonder that You could never love us more or love us less than You do right at this moment. What a wonder that we are called Your children.

Sometimes we try to hide ourselves from You, to cover up our shame just as Adam and Eve tried to cover their nakedness and hide from You.  Yet over and over and over again, You seek us out, draw us by Your lovingkindness. Nothing is hidden from Your sight. You understand us when we don’t understand ourselves. The dark side and the light side of our thoughts, behaviour and character are the same to You. You see all our mixed motives –our longing to glorify You in our lives and yet self-seeking at the same time.

Thank You for Your rich mercy and grace poured out to us in Your Son Jesus. Thank You that Jesus is our Advocate, Intercessor, Comforter and Consoler. We pray in His name. Amen

Supporting Verses

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself just as He is pure. 1 John 3:1-3

The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying:

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;

Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt.”

Jeremiah 31:3-4a

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your Presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in hell (margin = Or Sheol), behold You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

Even there Your hand shall lead me,

And Your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”

Even the night shall be light about me;

Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,

But the night shines as the day;

The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

Psalm 139:7-12

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate* with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2
