Mighty to Save

The LORD your God in your midst,

The Mighty One, will save;*

He will rejoice over you with gladness,

He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

*Strong’s Hebrew Concordance #3467 A primitive root; (properly) to be open, wide or free, i.e. (by implication) to be safe; (causative) to free or succor:- x at all, avenging, defend, deliver (-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save (-iour), get victory.

A verb meaning to save, to help, to deliver, to defend. The underlying idea of this verb is bringing to a place of safety or broad pasture as opposed to a narrow strait symbolic of distress and danger.

Father in heaven, we worship and thank You for all that You have done and are doing to save us through Your sinless Son Jesus, our merciful, sympathizing and faithful High Priest. Thank You that we do not fight for victory, but from victory in Him. You indeed are the Mighty One to save.

We come boldly to Your throne of grace to obtain mercy and help whatever our present need. We hold fast to Your promises and confess (speak) them before You. We thank You and rejoice that You are also rescuing, defending, delivering and saving our children from whatever may be taking them captive.

In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen

Supporting Verses

The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:56-57

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those whop through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:14-18

Seeing that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty?

Or the captives of the righteous be delivered?

But this says the LORD:

Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away,

And the prey of the terrible be delivered;

For I will contend with him who contends with you,

And I will save (* See above) your children.

Isaiah 49:24-25
