Peace in the Storm

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”

Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” and the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey him!” Mark 4:35-41

 

 

Father in heaven, we honour and worship your name Yahweh Shalom, Yahweh is Peace. In our uncertain times You are the unchanging God of peace, the source of wholeness in all of life - completeness, welfare and safety.  

Thank You for this record in Your Word which reassures us that You will bring us through the howling winds and storms of life and get us across to the other side. We do not strive for peace but stay our minds upon You. By prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, we make our requests to You and reach out to receive the gift of peace promised to us in Jesus. Thank You that He gives us peace always in every way and is with us all in these anxious times.

We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen

Shalom -safe, well, happy, welfare, i.e. health, prosperity, peace, wholly.

 

You will keep him in perfect peace*,

Whose mind is stayed on You,

Because he trusts in You.

Trust in the LORD forever,

For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33

 

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not a the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 15:27

 

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
