Tip #7

High quality essential oils are great for using sparingly for healing and wellbeing BUT specific essential oils can cause phototoxicity, meaning some people’s skin might have a reaction if they have essential oil on their skin and go out in the sun. Do your research.12

As a mother and wife, I am so grateful for being able to use essential oils as a tool in my family healing kit. I am not an expert, however over about 25 years, I have come to depend on a handful, and find different oils suit different people.

In our family, although we are not asset rich, as we have chosen to follow God's leading for our lives, we have never lacked anything. God provides all we need. This is how we have learned to live, and I believe this is what our family need to learn for the times ahead of us.

"And my God shall supply all your need, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Phillipians 4:19

So we trust in God's provision for our needs and buy and use organic essential oils. We did try the non-organic versions, thinking this would save money, but for us this led to irritation to both skin and airways. Those reactions were opposite to our need, as essential oils are for healing and helping. So wherever we live in the world we seek out organic essential oils with good reputations, and those companies which are transparent, and give plenty of information about where the oils come from, how the plant matter is processed, and what the constituents are in each oil.

We have never experienced a phototoxic reaction while using any essential oil, however I am careful not to use the citrus family topically on skin exposed to the sun, just in case!
