We Are Created in God's Image

We Are Created in God's Image

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Genesis 2:7

Father in heaven today we acknowledge You and Your Son, who is the Word, as our Creator. What a relief it is to know that this world did not originate from a big bang, an unplanned freak happening. We did not evolve over millions of years from flotsam. Instead, by Your spoken word You ordered the creation of the world to provide all the necessities of life. Then with Your own hand You created man in Your image, and breathed Your Spirit of life into him.

From the time of Adam and Eve You saw us down through the generations. At each generation You chose the chromosomes with the specific genes which make us unique individuals. You have gathered the genes from the migration of people around the world. You saw us when our mother was formed in our grandmother’s womb. Of all the eggs formed in our mother’s ovary at that time You picked the one which we would come from and timed its release. Of all the millions of sperm produced in our father You timed and directed the single one to fuse with our mother’s egg. What a miracle! We are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made!

Therefore whatever the circumstances of our conception, even if the result of a careless or wrong choice, we were not unplanned….a mistake….unwanted…. by You. You planned our lineage and the time and place of birth. Our gender, every physical feature and every ability is designed for Your specific purpose.

We confess that there are times when we are critical of our appearance or abilities and envious of others. Remind us at these times that we are Your handiwork.

You have brought us to this time in history. Therefore, we rest in the assurance that You will also bring us through these turbulent times. We are the work of Your hands and You will not forsake us. You will take charge of all the things concerning us.

We praise and thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen

Supporting Verses

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
John 1:1-3

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Hebrews 11:3

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified (margin says ‘set you apart’) you;
I ordained (margin says ‘appointed’) you a prophet to the nations.
Jeremiah 1:5

For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with you.
Psalm 139:13-18

The LORD will record,
When He registers the peoples:
“This one was born there.” Selah
Psalm 87:6

Woe to him who strives with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?
Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you begetting/’
Or to the woman, ‘What have you brought forth?’
Isaiah 45:9-10

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever;
Do not forsake the work of Your hands.
Psalm 138:8
